Bishop Alphonso Lee Smith is the founder and Pastor of one of Raleigh’s most exciting ministries. On December 31, 2008, Overseer Smith launched this new ministry Destiny Worship Center in Raleigh, NC at his new corporate office location. DWC is tagged as “A Church for People Who Don’t Do Church.” It is an exiting place where hip hop blends with the Word of God to create magnificent worship, awesome praise, great music, and excellent Word in a love filled atmosphere. Bishop Smith’s mission is to strengthen the weak, encourage the strong, and equip the everyday person to reach their God given destiny. He is known as “The Encourager” because of his God-given gift to use his Charismatic preaching and teaching style to motivate and inspire and give hope to the masses. He was licensed to preach the Gospel on October 4, 1987. On April 13, 1997, he established Agape` Christian Center, Inc. of Henderson, NC.

Pastor Smith has held District, State, and International offices for the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International and continues to serve as Executive Secretary for the State of NC. On January 25, 2002, he was elevated, with Mayor Robert “Chick” Young in attendance, as the District Overseer of the East Central District of the Full Gospel Baptist Church Fellowship International. He serves faithfully and humbly under the leadership of NC State Bishop Aubrey G. Mullen, Jr. in the FGBCFI and in the International Ministers Covenant Fellowship (IMCF) under the Presiding Bishop Lorenzo N. Peterson. Overseer Smith is not only an anointed preacher, teacher, and pastor, but he is also an assertive entrepreneur, pioneer, and visionary. On August 10, 1999, he spearheaded the incorporation of a 501 (c) non-profit organization-A.G.A.P.E. Community Development Corp., Inc (www.agapecdc.org). His goal was to create an “Agency with a Heart for People” that would cater to the holistic person in one primary location to serve the citizens of Franklin, Vance, Warren, Granville, Person, Wake, and Durham Counties.

A.G.A.P.E is an acronym for “Assisting Generations And Promoting Excellence.” The CDC services include HIV/AIDS Medicaid case management; employment readiness services for ex-offenders; HUD certified housing counseling; and food assistance. In 2004, Pastor Smith added the Henderson Convention Center, a 10,000 square foot building which is the premier leasing facility for weddings, civic functions, reunions, etc. to his territory. Agape` would use this location at the home for its ministry needs while the CDC operated its offices full-time in a separate location. The Convention Center continues to add financially to the ministry and business.
